Honda Recalls Nearly 1.2 Million Vehicles Due to Rear Camera Issue
Honda is recalling nearly 1.2 million vehicles in the U.S. due to a rear camera issue that may prevent the rear view camera image from appearing on the dashboard screen. The affected vehicles include certain Odyssey minivans from 2018 to 2023, Pilot SUVs from 2019 to 2022, and Passport SUVs from 2019 to 2023.
The problem has been traced to a faulty coaxial cable connector, which, if the rear view camera image doesn’t display, can cut driver visibility and increase the risk of a crash, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Honda has received nearly 274,000 warranty claims related to this issue from May 2017 through June 8, but there have been no reports of any injuries.
To address this issue, Honda dealers will replace the cable harness and install a straightening cover over the vehicle cable connector at no cost to owners. Notification letters to affected owners are expected to be mailed starting July 24.
