The Chevy II was introduced on September 29, 1961. It was the second post-WWII American-made car from the “Big 3” (General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler) to use a four-cylinder engine. The Chevy II was designed to be a simple, back-to-the-basics compact car, offering “maximum functionalism with thrift”. The initial production of the Chevy II lineup took place at the Willow Run, Michigan plant, where the Corvair was also built.
