Dodge Viper Discontinuation
The Dodge Viper was discontinued in 2017. The decision to end the production of the Viper was confirmed by the CEO of the Dodge Car Brand in November 2009, and the last Dodge Viper rolled off the line in 2010 . Despite the discontinuation, a few new Vipers were still sold in 2020, and there were reports of sales in 2021 as well.
The discontinuation was influenced by poor sales, with production being reduced in 2013 and 2014 due to low sales and growing inventory. In April 2014, production ceased for over two months due to slow sales, and Dodge addressed the issue by reducing the price of unsold 2014 models by US$15,000 and announced the 2015 models would carry the new, lower price tag.
Rumors also circulated that the Viper was canceled because it could not comply with federal safety standards (FMVSS 226), which required side curtain airbags. Given the shape of the car, it was impossible to comply with the safety regulation in place. Therefore, instead of finding a design solution or finally innovating, Dodge decided to discontinue the Viper.
Despite its discontinuation, the Viper continued to attract interest, with a few new units being sold even after the official end of production .
