Chevrolet’s Use of Center Bolt Valve Covers
Chevrolet started using center bolt valve covers in 1987. Prior to that, they used perimeter bolt covers. The switch to center bolt valve covers in 1987 was accompanied by other changes, such as the introduction of roller cams for most passenger car applications. These valve covers were designed to fit small-block Chevy engines with center bolt heads.
The use of center bolt valve covers solved the issue of cover leaks for V-8 engines. They offered a simple installation with a perfect fit and seal. Officially Licensed Chevrolet Centerbolt Valve Covers are available in die-cast aluminum or stamped steel with a centerbolt hold-down. They are an excellent option to consider if you’re looking to add style to your engine bay.
It’s worth noting that the first year for the center bolt valve covers was 1987 for most passenger car applications, but Vettes may have gotten them in late ’86.
