Dodge Version of the Bronco
The Dodge version of the Bronco was the Dodge Ramcharger. The Ramcharger was designed as a rival to the Bronco and had a long and successful sales run. It first appeared in 1974, riding on a version of the Dodge D-series pickup platform.
For the 1978 model year, the second-generation Bronco was introduced to better compete with the Chevrolet K5 Blazer, Dodge Ramcharger, and Jeep Cherokee. The Bronco entered the full-size SUV segment and was adapted directly from the Ford F-Series, becoming a shortened version of the F-100 4×4.
The Ramcharger was developed to go against the Chevrolet K5 Blazer, which GM had introduced in 1969, and also competed against the Bronco.
