Plymouth Version of the Dodge Spirit
The Plymouth version of the Dodge Spirit is the Plymouth Acclaim. The Acclaim was a mid-size sedan produced in the 1989 to 1995 model years and was Plymouth’s updated replacement for both the similarly sized E-body Caravelle and the K-body Reliant. It was a version of the Chrysler Corporation’s AA-body 4-door sedan, which was an evolutionary development of Chrysler’s extended K-car platform. The Acclaim was also replaced by the Plymouth Breeze in 1996.
The Plymouth Acclaim shared its basic design with the Dodge Spirit, the Chrysler LeBaron sedan, and the export-market Chrysler Saratoga. The Acclaim was one of the last K-car derivatives produced by Chrysler, with just under half a million examples built in its 7-model year run.
The Plymouth Acclaim and Dodge Spirit provided reliable transportation in a traditionally styled four-door sedan from 1989 to 1995. They were available with various engine options, including the 2.5, 2.5 turbo, 2.2 turbo, and 3.0 V-6. The Acclaim had a softer ride, while the Dodge Spirit was given a firmer ride with better handling. The Spirit R/T used P205/60VR15 tires, higher rate springs, higher control strut shock absorbers, a larger 28.6mm rear sway bar, and a deck lid mounted spoiler.
