The Ford Consul is a car that was manufactured by Ford of Britain from 1951 until 1962. It was the four-cylinder base model of the three-model Ford Zephyr range, which also included the Zephyr and Zephyr Zodiac. The Consul was later replaced by the Zephyr 4, while the mid-range Zephyr model became the Zephyr 6 and the top-of-the-range Zephyr Zodiac was simply called the Zodiac. In 1972, the name Consul was revived for a model produced by Ford in both the UK and Germany, which was in production until 1975. The Consul Classic, Consul Capri, and Consul Corsair were also part of the Consul range. The Consul Classic was produced from August 1961 to March 1963, followed by the Consul Corsair from 1963 to 1970. The Consul Capri, a 2-door coupe version of the Classic, was available from 1961 to 1964. The Ford Consul Cortina, launched in 1962, was a popular and successful model that was later known simply as the Cortina.
