The Dodge Dart is based on an enlarged Fiat Compact platform. The Dart was introduced at the 2012 North American International Auto Show and is Dodge’s first compact sedan since the discontinuation of the Dodge Neon and Dodge Neon SRT-4 in 2005. The Dodge Dart was built on a Fiat platform and was originally named the Dodge Hornet when it was introduced as a concept car in 2006. However, due to the 2009 financial crisis, Chrysler could no longer invest in the Hornet, so they merged with Fiat and the new model was renamed the Dodge Dart. The Dart made its appearance at the North American International Auto Show in Michigan and was sold as the Fiat Viaggio on non-US markets.
