Ford Car Introduced in 1955
In 1955, Ford introduced the Ford Fairlane as their full-size model, available in six different body styles. The Fairlane was the top-of-the-line model, with the Mainline Series as the base trim level and the Customline as the intermediate level.
The 1955 model was the first Australian Ford to receive the new overhead-valve “Y-block” V8 engine, and it went on sale at the end of July 1955. This model also featured panoramic windshields, providing the driver with more panoramic visibility, and for the first time, Ford offered seat belts as a dealer option.
