Are Toyota Solara and Camry the Same?
The Toyota Solara is not the same as the Toyota Camry, but they are related. The Solara is actually a different type of the Toyota Camry. Between 1998 and 2009, Toyota had two models for the Camry: the standard Toyota Camry and the Toyota Camry Solara, which was known for short as simply The Toyota Solara. The two models have many similarities but were distinct in their own ways. The Solara had a convertible option, which the Camry did not have, and also had additional features and upgrades such as sport suspension, performance tires, a six-disc CD changer, leather upholstery, and 16-inch aluminum wheels.
The Toyota Camry Solara is mechanically based on the Toyota Camry and effectively replaced the discontinued Camry Coupe. However, the Solara was designed with a greater emphasis on sportiness, with more styling and improved suspension and engine tuning intended to provide a sportier feel. The coupe was introduced in late 1998 for the 1999 model year. The second-generation Camry Solara debuted in 2003 for model year 2004, initially offered as a coupe; the second-generation convertible was introduced in the spring of 2004 as a 2005 model. Coupe production ended in mid-2008. Despite official statements that the convertible might be sold until 2010 if demand was sufficient, production was suspended. The Solara is discontinued in 2009.

My 2006 Toyota Camry Solara lasted for 16 years and over 300K miles. I never had any major issues with my car and if it had not gone to Car Heaven, I would still be driving it. It was sporty, yet roomy and was excellent on gas mileage. I now have a 2021 Toyota RAV4 and I love it as well.
