Engine Options
The Acura TLX comes with two engine options:
The base engine is a 2.4-liter inline-4 cylinder (I4) engine. This engine produces around 200 horsepower.
The upgraded engine option is a 3.5-liter V6 engine. This engine produces around 290 horsepower.
The I4 engine uses a timing chain, while the V6 engine uses a timing belt. The timing belt needs to be replaced periodically, while the timing chain does not. This is an important maintenance consideration for longer-term ownership.
My Analysis
There is no such thing as an Acura or Honda with a “V4” engine configuration. The two options for the TLX are the I4 or V6 engines only.
The V6 engine produces more power but requires more maintenance due to the timing belt. However, the extra power may be preferable for some. The I4 engine is more fuel efficient but has less power. Ultimately, it depends on your priorities and needs. Both engines have been reliable in the TLX according to owner reports.
I hope this helps explain the differences between the I4 and V6 engine options for the Acura TLX! Let me know if you have any other questions.
