The first run of Citations in 1980 was a huge success, with over 800,000 units sold, making it the number one selling car in America at that time. However, sales started to decline in subsequent years, with only 100,000 units sold in 1983 and 50,000 units in 1985. The Citation was ultimately replaced by the L-body Beretta coupe and Corsica sedan in 1988.
