What oil does a GS400 take?
Personally, I’d stick with the 5w-30. Modern engines have pretty tight tolerances, much tighter than anything from the 60’s or 70’s, and you need a “skinny” oil to get in those bearing surfaces etc. You’ll get faster lubrication at startup with a 5w, and startup is where the greatest % of wear occurs.
