How the AC works on a Toyota Prius
The Toyota Prius uses a special system to manage the energy used by the heating and cooling system in the vehicle, which helps conserve fuel. The Prius has two relatively unusual buttons on the Heating and Air Conditioning control panel. One of these buttons, indicated by a large occupant getting treated air and then a small passenger with none, refers to the Toyota Smart-flow climate control system.
When the air conditioning is active, the compressor in the Prius gives up heat and condenses the refrigerant. The Prius AC system operates in six different HVAC modes: cabin cooling, cabin heating, serial dehumidification, parallel dehumidification, defrosting, and heat-pump generated cabin heat.
It’s important to note that if your Toyota Prius AC is not working, there could be several causes. Some common causes include a dirty cabin air filter, refrigerant leak, dirty or clogged condenser, dirty or clogged evaporator, bad blower motor, defective compressor, faulty blend door actuator, or any fault in the electrical system. Compressor: Maybe your refrigerant levels are just fine, but your compressor is broken. If your compressor can’t transform your refrigerant into a mist, then your AC will keep blowing warm air into your car.
