How Subaru Keyless Entry Works
Subaru Keyless Entry, also known as the Keyless Access and Push Button Start feature, allows you to enter and start your car without ever touching the smart key in your pocket or purse. Here’s how it works:
1. Smart Key Communication: The key communicates via radio waves with multiple antennas in the car.
2. Keyless Access System: Subaru uses two different styles of remotes depending on the model. No traditional metal key is visible, but one is hidden inside as a backup. Instead of inserting a traditional metal key, you just push the start/stop button to start the car.
3. Range Limitation: The car will only start if the key fob is within range. If you’re planning on driving a long distance, make sure to bring the key fob with you to avoid being stranded.
It’s important to note that if the key fob’s remote functions stop working, you can still lock and unlock your vehicle using other methods such as using the spare key fob, the emergency mechanical key on the malfunctioning key fob, the vehicle’s PIN access (if equipped and configured), or the Subaru Starlink app (if subscribed and configured).
If your Subaru’s keyless entry seems to be malfunctioning, it’s possible that your main key fob has a problem. In such cases, using the spare key fob or a mechanical key will still allow you to start the engine.
