How does the Honda HISS system work?
The Honda HISS (Honda Ignition Security System) is an electronic immobilizer system designed to prevent unauthorized starting of the engine. Here’s how it works:
1. Key Recognition: The HISS system uses a special chip embedded in the original ignition key. When the key is inserted into the ignition switch, the chip in the key recognizes signals from the Engine Control Unit (ECU) and sends a special ID verification signal.
2. ID Verification: The ECU receives the ID verification signal from the key and compares it with the expected signal. If the signals match, the ECU allows the engine to start. If the signals do not match, the engine will not start.
3. Anti-Theft Protection: The HISS system cannot be bypassed by hot-wiring the ignition or exchanging the ignition switch module. This provides an additional layer of security against theft.
It’s important to note that the HISS system is specific to Honda motorcycles and is designed to work with original keys that have the embedded chip. Attempting to start the engine without the correct key or with a key that does not have the chip will result in the engine not starting.

How do I turn off my Honda Hiss?

Why is the hiss light blinking?
That’s normal operation for the HISS light, it flashes for 24 hours after the ignition is switched off. Like an alarm indicator. You can turn the flashing off. The HISS indicator starts flashing every 2 seconds for 24 hours after the ignition switch is turned OFF.
When did Honda introduce Hiss?
Systems like HISS will cut off either the fuel, spark or the starter signal to prevent the object from being started without the proper key. AFAIR it was introduced to the CBR Fireblade around 2000 for the 929 model, same time as EFI.
What happens when you hiss?
If people hiss at someone such as a performer or a person making a speech, they express their disapproval or dislike of that person by making long loud ‘s’ sounds. Hiss is also a noun.
Can you get rid of the hiss?
When recording, you can eliminate the noise by removing noise sources such as a fan or a computer. You can also reduce the hissing sound by placing the microphone closer to the subject. Another way to eliminate hissing noise is to turn off the auto-gain settings in the camera.
What does Honda hiss do?
Honda’s immobilizer is called the Honda Ignition Security System (H.I.S.S.), which electronically controls the starting of the engine.
Do all Hondas have hiss?
Not all Honda motorcycle models have it. Please contact your nearest Honda dealer or refer to your local Honda web site to find out which models sold in your area are equipped with H.I.S.S.
How good is Honda Hiss?
The HISS system is rather effective, you CANNOT start a hiss bike without the key, unless you swap the ECU for a race one which costs around £300 or of course you put in a new ecu and key…. it won’t stop the steal-to-order thieves but at least it prevents opportunists and joy riders, as they won’t get it started….
How do I activate hiss?
Turn ignition ON, putt distance meter to ODO, press and hold LEFT button for two seconds, HISS light flashes once, release button, turn ignition OFF. DONE. Same procedure to deactivate the HISS light.
Why are Honda engines so quiet?
The components used in the making of these engines are of good quality. Why are Honda engines so quiet? The main reason they’re quiet is, unlike other manufacturers who will build a lawn mower, put on a plastic cover, and ship it, Honda will take the time to put sound deadening material under the cover.
