How Chevy Park Assist Works
Chevy Park Assist is an active safety technology designed to help drivers park their vehicles and avoid collisions with nearby objects. There are different versions of Park Assist available, including Rear Park Assist and Front and Rear Park Assist.
Rear Park Assist uses multiple ultrasonic sensors located on the rear bumper of the vehicle. When the vehicle is in reverse, the sensors detect objects up to 8 feet behind the vehicle. When an object is detected, Rear Park Assist emits low-pitched beeps from the rear speakers or pulses the driver seat twice on both sides if the vehicle is equipped with the Safety Alert Seat. It’s important to note that Rear Park Assist only provides alerts and does not engage the vehicle’s throttle or braking system.
Front and Rear Park Assist is an advanced version of Park Assist that helps the driver park the vehicle when driving forward or backing up. It uses sensors on the front and rear bumpers to detect nearby objects during low-speed maneuvering. When the vehicle is traveling at speeds below 5 mph (8 km/h), Front and Rear Park Assist is activated. If the vehicle is equipped with the Rear Vision Camera, a warning triangle on the camera screen shows the location of the nearest detected object. As the object gets closer, the triangle changes from amber to red and increases in size.
It’s important to note that Park Assist is a helpful tool for parking and collision avoidance, but it does not replace the driver’s responsibility to remain aware of their surroundings and use safe driving practices. Park Assist is available on various Chevrolet models and can provide hands-free parking help in certain situations.
