Opening the Tailgate on a Honda
To open the tailgate on a Honda vehicle, you can use the hands-free access power tailgate feature. Here’s how to do it:
Step 1: Stand about 2 feet behind your Honda.
Step 2: With your vehicle’s remote close at hand, simply make a kicking motion under the rear of the vehicle, and your tailgate will open. Should you kick to the side, or not use the proper kicking motion, the tailgate will not open.
Step 3: To close the tailgate, use the same up-and-back kicking motion to open or close the power liftgate [[6]].
It’s important to note that the process to open the tailgate from the inside can differ depending on the model year and trim level. If you need to open the tailgate from the inside, you can locate and press the trunk release button on the lower left driver’s side dash near the traction control button. If this doesn’t work, or you find yourself in the back of your Honda and need a quick exit, you can locate the plastic panel over the lock in the center of the tailgate and remove the panel to reveal the emergency tailgate release.
Please keep in mind that manually pulling or pushing the tailgate is not recommended as it could ruin the motor, etc. (per the manual).

What is power tailgate keyless open mode?
Owners who want to open the tailgate while their hands are full don’t even have to press a button. They can simply raise and lower their foot beneath the rear bumper while the Smart Entry remote is with them. The tailgate will unlock and open automatically.
There are two buttons above the rear license plate where one opens the trunk.
