Subaru Frame Composition
Subaru vehicles have frames that are primarily made of steel. The frames of Subaru models, such as the Forester, Impreza, WRX, WRX STi, Legacy, Outback, and Baja, feature heavily reinforced B-pillars made of high-strength, high-tension steel. These structural members are designed to enhance the vehicle’s crashworthiness and provide a challenge for rescue operations at crash scenes.
In addition to the B-pillars, Subaru also uses high-strength steels in various areas of their vehicles, such as the side members, sills, and pillars. The Subaru Global Platform (SGP) incorporates hot rolled steel in the strength class for the side members and sills, as well as reinforced pillars to protect the passenger compartment. The use of high-tensile steel in the SGP structure enables it to absorb 40% more impact energy compared to previous models, enhancing both passive and active safety features.
