Ford Taurus and V8 Engine
The third generation of the Ford Taurus SHO, produced from 1996 to 1999, was the only generation of the Ford Taurus to be equipped with a V8 engine. This V8 engine was a 3.4-liter unit that produced 235 horsepower and 230 lb-ft of torque. It was designed and built by Ford Motor Company in conjunction with Yamaha Motor Corporation specifically for use in the 1996 Ford Taurus SHO .
The V8-powered Taurus SHO was a departure from the previous generations, as it featured a more refined design and used less radical bodywork. It was distinguishable from the standard Taurus with different seats, alloy wheels, bumpers, and of course, the V8 drivetrain ).
The V8 engine in the Taurus SHO was a unique feature that set it apart from other Taurus models and contributed to its performance characteristics. Despite its limited production and relatively low popularity, the V8-powered Taurus SHO remains a notable and rare variant of the Ford Taurus lineup .
In subsequent generations of the Ford Taurus, such as the sixth generation, the V8 engine was not available, and the standard engine was a 263 hp 3.5L V6, which was later upgraded to 288 hp in 2013. The Taurus SHO in the sixth generation was powered by a 365 hp twin-turbocharged version of the V6 engine ).
